Kamala Harris Picks Tim Walz as Running Mate

Democratic VP Nominee Selects Midwestern Governor

In a move that could help bolster her support in the Midwest, Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Walz, a popular two-term governor, is known for his progressive policies and his ability to reach across the aisle to get things done.

Harris announced her decision in a speech to supporters in Minneapolis on Friday, August 5th, 2024. She praised Walz's record of accomplishment in Minnesota, and she said that he shares her vision for a more equitable and just America.

"Tim Walz is a proven leader who has dedicated his career to fighting for working families," Harris said. "He is a man of integrity and compassion, and I am proud to have him by my side as we work to build a better future for all Americans."

Walz, 60, is a former teacher and social worker. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2006, and he served as the state's lieutenant governor from 2013 to 2019. He was elected governor in 2018, and he has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump.

In a statement, Walz said that he was "honored and humbled" to be chosen as Harris's running mate. He said that he shares Harris's vision for a more equitable and just America, and he pledged to work hard to help her achieve her goals.

"I believe that Kamala Harris has the experience, the vision, and the heart to lead our country," Walz said. "I am excited to join her on this journey, and I am confident that together, we can build a better future for all Americans."
